Diner Classics Done Right!! • Proudly Serving Berkeley Since 1979 OUR STORY The Homemade Cafe was opened in 1979 when previous owners Norm and Janet trekked cross country to pursue their dreams of opening a local diner in sunny California. In 35 years we've grown, laughed and cried with our neighborhood friends while carrying out our single mission - serving great food. In 2011, Norm and Janet sold the restaurant to long time employee Collin. Having grown up a Berkeley kid, Collin grew up eating at Homemade and eventually got his first job as a busboy at the cafe. After learning how the ropes by working in every position from dishwasher to kitchen manager (and a brief hiatus at NYU) Collin is active in all day to day activites and is committed to the restaurant and the neighborhood. Come help us celebrate our 35th year! Thanks! - Collin D. Show Your Pride, Let Us Know You Found Us Through Pink Spots Gay & Lesbian (LGBT) Friendly Restaurant
Been coming here for around 10 years when the old owners still ran it. Still great after all these years and love the fact that the new owner is local too. The art is also great. Keep it up Homemade!
Go on a weekday
So the waffles are the best!! Coffee is good too. It’s got a cute hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. We’ve been here many times, sometimes service can be hit or miss, but seems the food is always great. Weekends are way too busy, we recommend going on a weekday if you are a first timer!

Reminds me of an old-school breakfast joint -- diner-esque but smaller. Great menu selection, no-nonsense, all the classics (eggs, homefries, pancakes). Fun people-watching. Homemade pastries and fresh fruit. Everything I've tried here is tasty tasty. Homemade indeed.
