The Daly City Youth Health Center (DCYHC) is a school-linked program of the Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD). Our clinic is a satellite facility of the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC). Since 1990, we have provided comprehensive, integrated services to youth. We believe ALL young people should have access to services that support their mental and physical health and well being. The Daly City Youth Health Center is a community-based health center that offers low-cost or no-cost services to low income and at-risk youth ages 13-25. Our Primary Care Clinic Services: • Check-ups and Primary Care Exams • Immunizations/Vaccinations • Tuberculosis skin test and treatment • Vision and Hearing Screening • Reproductive health exams, including Pap Smear and Breast Exams • Contraceptives • Emergency Contraceptives (“Plan B”) • Pregnancy Tests • Options counseling • Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Tests including HIV Tests and Counseling Counseling is a safe place where you can talk to someone and work out any problems, stresses, or issues you might be having. Because everyone experiences hard times that can affect their lives or the lives of those around them as they grow up, DCYHC counselors are there to help you to feel comfortable, safe and understood. In a counseling session you can talk about whatever you need to talk about, however you want to talk about it, and our counselors are here to support and listen to you. DCYHC Behavioral Health Department provides individual, family, couples, and group counseling to an average of 70 youth a month at DCYHC and several JUHSD high schools. Most of our youth are coping with bullying, reproductive health issues, stress, anxiety, abuse, substance use, truancy, depression, family and relationship conflicts. Often times the youth will come in with their parents or partners to work out their conflicts. Our comprehensive system allows for our clinic’s primary health care providers to seamlessly refer patients to our onsite counselors. Project PLAY (Peer Leadership Alternatives for Youth) is a reproductive health and pregnancy prevention education program, currently implemented in the JUHSD high schools. Our Health Educators and Peer Health Educators provide a ten day, comprehensive sex education workshop in all of the health classes within the Jefferson Union High School District. Health Education The Daly City Youth Health Center’s teen pregnancy prevention program (Peer Leadership Alternatives for Youth) Project PLAY was created in 1996 to provide young people with comprehensive, flexible and innovative strategies which promote healthy, educated and responsible choices regarding pregnancy and parenting. Project PLAY Health Educators provide a ten series, comprehensive sex education in all of health classes of the Jefferson Union High School District, to help youth personalize information and emphasize avoidance of unprotected sex and the implementation of abstinence. The curriculum is a proven strategy in changing adolescent risk-taking behavior.
